Top chartbusters of 2009

The year 2009 had been a great year for the music lovers as the industry churned out various hits each with a different style ranging from soft romantic numbers to rustic numbers, youthful songs to fun-filled light music. Let us have a look at the songs which topped the music charts in the year which is dying off.

Masakalli

Oozing freshness in every way, this expressive number from A.R.Rehman swept the music lovers off their feet. This fun-filled light number from the film ‘Delhi-6′ sung by Mohit Chauhan is still a hot favorite of music channels.

Dhan Te Nan

This edgy, energetic, and rustic number from ‘Kaminey’ has a touch of rock to it. Composed by Vishal Bhardwaj, the song has been sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Vishal Dadlani. This rocking number has topped the music charts of 2009.

Tera Hone Laga Hoon

This is by far the most romantic and soothing number of 2009. Pakistani Singer Atif Aslam has sung this song with Alsiha Chinoi. Pritam has composed a beautiful love ballad for the recently released film ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’.

All Izz Well

This youthful, campus number from ‘3 Idiots’ has given a perfect ending to the year. This fun track has raw energy and is filled with whistles in the background. Sung by Sonu Niigaam, Swanand Kirkire and Shaan and composed by Shantanu Moitra, it is a hot favorite among all music channels.

Salman Khan to hunt for real life unsung heroes

Bollywood star Salman Khan turns 44 this Sunday and as he awaits the release of his forthcoming period film ‘Veer’, he has launched a nationwide hunt for unsung heroes as to connect with the masses and also promote his flick.

This step comes as a natural following from Aamir Khan’s Bharat Darshan programme for the promotion of ‘3 Iditos’. So, there comes a hunt from Sallu Bhai for young men and women who have performed heroic deeds which the nation doesn’t know about.

Veer producer Vijay Galani confirmed the news saying, “You’ve heard correctly. Salman is launching a contest to find real-life unsung heroes. Since he has played the hero so often on screen, he feels real-life heroes deserve to be brought out of anonymity. We’ll be going to the remotest corners of India to select these unknown heroes. Finally one of them will be given the Veer cup personally by Salman at a function in Mumbai.”

’Veer’ has newcomer Zarine Khan opposite Salman. Other stars in the pivotal roles include former Miss UK Lisa Lazarus, Mithun Chakraborty and Jackie Shroff along with Sohail Khan and Bharat Dabholkar.

Vidya Balan takes up another challenging role

Vidya Balan is one actress in our industry who has constantly been under criticism for her mature looks and bad dressing sense, but at the same time, there is not one critic who has ever found any flaw in the characters played by her. Always up and ready for the challenging roles, she impressed everyone with the mature handling of her character in ‘Paa’ and now will again be seen in a totally different role of a earthy village woman in ‘Ishqiya’ with Naseruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi.

“I play a village belle,” she explains, “Yet I’m fully aware of my sexual charms and within the four walls of the bedroom, I’m unapologetic about using my guile and charm.’’

Yet again she has signed up to play Sabrina Lal, Jessica’s sister, in the movie ‘No One Killed Jessica’. “Yes, I am playing Sabrina Lal in Rajkumar Gupta’s film,” she said, “The minute I heard the role, I wanted to do it. It’s my first biographical role and a big challenge. I’ll be meeting Sabrina shortly.”

As the name suggests, the movie is based on the murder of Jessica Lal in 1999 which exposed the nepotism, inequality and corruption prevalent in Indian society.
